Stephen Swires at Steve and Sam's Blog wrote about his experience with Fretta and other Gamemodes that Garry's Mod has to offer and he expresses his views on traditional gamemodes that have slowly been showing up in recent times.
"The idea of Fretta is based on another gamemode base called the Simple Games Base which was released by Rambo_6, which resulted in quite a healthy collection of gamemodes. The best thing of all is that you could vote for which gamemode you wanted to play at the end and is something which has enthusiastically been included into Fretta. This makes a server a lot more democratic and results in a lot of variety."
"All of these are pretty early on in the development process and have been used to test out things such as the round based features that have been added to Fretta. These gamemodes are Tactical Police Cops, Plane Crazy and Laser Dance. All are pretty simple and don’t have any specific goals.
Tactical Police Cops is just a basic demonstration of the round based stuff. All it consists of is two teams which resemble CTs/Terrorists from Counter-Strike but only has two weapons available, the AK-47 and the M4A1. As well as this, it shows off the Move hook in the classes for the suicide guy which can be used to suicide bomb people. Classy.
Plane Crazy is probably the most fun out of what Garry has used to demonstrate Fretta, a flying gamemode where your model is a lamp. It’s fun to just fly around solely because of the funky controls but gets frustrating with the low bullet damage and small targets. Oh and Laser Dance is just like instagib with a lot of effects."
The Garry's Mod Community is showing support for simple gamemodes and simple gamemode bases (To develop their own) which has caused the heart of Garry's Mod to start beating again.
We should see an uproar of more home-brew gamemodes by this summer.[...]
