"Das Spiel ist ein Coop-Zombie-Shooter für bis zu sechs Mitspieler und basiert auf der Unreal Engine 2.5, wie auch Red Orchestra. Besonderes Merkmal ist die ZEDtime, ein Zeitlupeneffekt, der auch im Multiplayer-Modus funktionieren soll. (Ein Tripwire-Entwickler: "Das einzige was cooler ist als Zombies zu töten ist Zombies in Zeitlupe zu töten.") Killing Floor erscheint in nicht allzu ferner Zukunft über Steam und nutzt auch diverse Steamworks-Features wie Achievements und Community Funktionen.
