I'm sure we've all seen maps for Gmod where we asked ourselves "Why even release this to to the public?" Well I am here to show you what people who take pride in their work are going to accomplish. The following maps are not complete but when they are, they will be setting the standard for Gmod mapping.
Gm_TornadoChase
Our first map is Gm_TornadoChase which is being created by the member MonkeyJoeBla.
MonkeyJoeBla's map is a physics playground that pushes Source's physics engine to the limits. In Gm_TornadoChase you take the role a Storm Chaser, who's job is to follow storms and other weather anomolies with state of the art technology that allows them gather data and conduct research.
Gm_tornadochase is a giant sandbox map that puts you at the foot of nature's most powerful force. Modeled after first hand experience, the map features a physically simulated tornado that moves across the map on it's own accord, choosing paths at random and shifting direction when you least expect it. Buildings caught in its wake are dynamically torn apart, and the resulting debris are tossed about violently. Your job is to design contraptions that can withstand tornadic winds, capture scientific data and video from inside the tornado, and successfully deploy it without turning into debris yourself. - MonkeyJoeBla

Gm_Reaction
Our next map is Gm_Reaction. This map is absolute beauty packaged with great atmosphere. This map is being developed by Xhizors.
Gm_Reaction is basically the oasis that all Gmod players seek. A sandbox map that has both beauty and appeal. This map has features that would appeal to both comic makers and builders. The atmosphere would work great in any outdoors comic while the seemingly endless skybox allows builders to reach for the sky!
Hey, welcome, this is Gm_Reaction (WIP Name). This map is currently in WIP and I thought I would give a sneak preview of what I have done so far.
The theme is that of a logged environment. There are still forests but vast amounts of area have been cleared. However the combine, after finding out that the rebels had a secret under ground base and were using the funds from logging to pay for there rebellious expenses, decide to invade and kill anyone in the path leaving the buildings intact. The map is the end result after this invasion.
The map takes up the full hammer grid. There are huge amounts of space that can be used for all sorts of things. I have made custom grounds textures and tweaked the rock textures to get the style I wanted. The 3d skybox is also huge and very detailed.
The map includes a lake (with water), buildings, vast amounts of space, custom textures, NPC nodded, 2 Easter eggs, teleports, mountains, HDR, Fog, lighting and other things that have not yet been added or thought of.

Rural Russia
Another map is Rural Russia. This map brings out a familliar setting for those of us that have played S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Of course this map will have a lot more to it.
Jlea, the mapping section moderator, is working on this map. Unfortunately he hasn't posted TOO much information about it. As he said:

Gm_Atomic
Okay, I guess I lied. This map IS complete. Gm_Atomic will contribute to the RP community as well as builders who are simply fond of the atmosphere.
Gm_Atomic is a spinoff of The Capital Wasteland (the setting for Fallout 3). but that doesn't make it any less spectacular. Either way this map is a breakthrough in Gmod mapping history.
GM_Atomic is fully playable and designed to be a good map for building and general gmod stuff.

- Post-apocalyptic atmosphere
- Indoor and outdoor areas -Bigwig
