Later today I interviewed Monkeyjoe about his highly anticipated upcoming (hopefully) map, Gm_Tornadochase. I hope that the answers given by him will satisfy some of your curious minds, and answer some unexplained questions.
The Facepunch thread for this map is here (www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=569428).
Interview with Monkeyjoe of Facepunch:
Q: What gave you the idea to start building Tornadoechase?
Monkey: I started storm chase as both a hobby and a job, and one of the things that I had always wanted to see was a storm chasing game. While the map isn't quite a full rendition of that, it's certainly a little idea that grew on it's own.
Q: Has the hype over this map been overwhelming for you? Did you expect this much attention?
Monkey: I never anticipated any hype of this caliber to come out of the map, and while it's somewhat annoying and confusing at times, it's also really cool to see how much support the community is willing to give.
Q: What is the reason for your lack of recent updates on the forum thread on Facepunch?
Monkey: My initial regiment of updates created a logarithmic feedback loop, which is to say with each update people would pile on with "you should add this" or "you know what would be cool". This led me to getting swamped with ideas and plans which ultimately led me astray from the focus of the map. I chose to keep things quiet so I could experiment and toy around without worry that the guys at Facepunch would disapprove or lead me down the wrong design path.
Q: Are you still working on the map or have you settled down? Or given up?
Monkey: Work has been going steady on the map. The current incarnation looks almost nothing like the screenshots in the thread (in a good way of course).
Q: Do you have a completion date set yet?
Monkey: No dates as of yet.
Q: Do you have anything else to say to the Garry's mod community?
Monkey: Keep on truckin'
So we can conclude from this interview that Monkeyjoe has been working on this map, and that he has not given up. All I can say is, good luck Monkeyjoe, and thanks for bringing such an amazing map to the Garry's mod community. All hope is not yet lost.
